how do you replace rear wheel bearings on a 2000 silverado 2500 4X4?
I have a 2000 silverado 2500 4X4, I hear a roaring sound coming from the left rear wheel, I checked the brakes and rotors and they like fairly new. Look around online auto stores and don’t see anything for the rear wheel bearing. What kind of bearing are on the 4X4, not sure how they are set up, and how do you replace them.
that can be an involved project. the brake drum has to come off. the fluid in the rear end drained, cover removed. then, on some models you have to remove the differential gear assembly. after all of this you can push the axle in, and look inside of the differential case and locate the axle retainer clip, pull it off. remove the axle. you are now about a third of the way there… on the outer axle housing you need to remove the output seal. you should be able to see the bearing at this point. remove the bearing and replace. fro reassembly, go to the book for the procedure and specifications.
