(NewsUSA) – Every summer, families brave the heat to take road trips, going to enjoy barbecues and baseball games. While all these activities can be fun, they may also require a large amount of time spent in the car.
One of the most important and most overlooked, components of vehicle safety and maintenance is the braking system. Keeping your brake system in top shape can help keep you safe on the road and avoid costly repairs in the long term.
The typical brake system in a passenger car consists of disc brakes on the wheels and front disc brakes or drum at the rear.
When a driver reduces the brake pedal, a piston in the master cylinder forces brake fluid through a series of lines of metal, rubber hoses and valves to various assemblies brake on each wheel. This causes the brakes engage to stop the vehicle.
Over time, brake pads (disc brakes) and brake shoes (drum brakes) carried out with normal use, requiring replacement.
Firestone Complete Auto Care recommends that its brake system and the inspection service according to your vehicle owner’s manual, or the first sign of a problem. Here are some warning signs of brake:
- The brake warning lamp lights up, which may indicate a possible loss of braking capacity.

If you experience any of these warning signs, you must have an ASE certified technician inspect your brake system. These symptoms may indicate potential problems in the brake system, including brake pads or shoes wear, the air in the brake lines, brake fluid leak or warped brake rotors.
Before going on the road this summer, take some time to ensure that your vehicle is in good working order – there’s always time to brake safely.
