Brake Lining
Should I bleed my brake lines, or replace the master cylinder?
I drive a 1979 Chevy Stepside. About a month or two ago, I noticed I was losing my brake pressure very rapidly, so I left the truck off the street, and began troubleshooting. I added brake fluid and instantly when I pumped the brakes to get it into the lines, there was a ton of pressure. I started the truck, and as soon as I pressed the gas pedal, I lost all of the pressure!
Is it a simple, bleed then refill job, or do I need to replace the lines or cylinder?
every time you press the brake pedal with engine running your gonna feel like there’s no pressure its normal its the brake assist from the brake booster, here’s something you could do, with engine off pump the pedal until it gets hard then hold it if it goes to floor you may have a leak external or internal,
check for any leaks on the lines and bleeder screws if it feels ok then just bleed the brakes., here how you do one person bleeding:
get an empty water bottle like 1liter and the cap, and you will need a hose like a vacuum hose that fits the bleeder screw.
k know fill the bottle bout half or a quarter with brake fluid, make a hole on the cap so the hose fits and submerge the vacuum line in the fluid, make sure its submerge.
your gonna connect the hose to the bleeder screw hopen the srew make sure you have enough fluid in brake fluid resevoir, then pump the pedal bout 10m times the reason the hose has to be submerge the fluid is when you let go of the pedal air doesn’t get back in the system ,
